SXSW 2014 Food and Music Guide

SXSW 2014 is upon us. This weekend everything will begin and all hell will break loose here in Austin. Are you ready? To help you out I have put together a short guide to some of the best places to chow down, some bands you should definitely RSVP to, and how to survive this intense 10 day festival.

SXSW-2014

The Food

Austin has become known for its amazing food. From BBQ, to Sushi, Austin has some of the best of the best. So if you’re coming in from out-of-town how do you choose just a few restaurants to try while you’re in Austin? Here’s how we’ll help you out.

1. Franklin BBQ

If you have the time, please wait in the ridiculously long lines to try this BBQ. It will be the most amazing BBQ you will ever taste and your stomach and taste buds will thank you.

2. The Barley Swine

This American tapas bar run by Bryce Gilmore is a culinary adventure. You will be presented small plates of dishes you cannot get anywhere else. Just be sure to arrive early!

3. Food trucks

Every list in Austin has at least one food truck on it. Instead of naming just one, I suggest you do research for the type of food you are really craving. Trust me, there will be a food truck that has it.

4. Contigo

Are you a carnivore? Do you like house cured specialty meats and sausages along with a good beer? This is the place for you.

5. Juan in a Millions

This place is famous for more than their breakfast taco challenge. The food is actually really great. Authentic, cheesy, tex-mex done right, this place is the perfect breakfast spot when you’re hungover.

The Music

Austin has long been known as the live music capital of the world but when you come here you may still be overwhelmed. especially during SXSW. Musicians will be on every corner serenading your every step. How do you choose where to go see a show and who to see?

Don’t. When you come to Austin, enjoy your time here. Eat some great food, walk around and check out the free shows. I guarantee you this is what the locals do. Save your money and experience all of the totally awesome free shows/food/booze what have you.

Survival of the Fittest

SXSW can be overwhelming. 10 full days of loud music, drinking, amazing food, new technology and film. Do we need anything else? With all of this fun stuff going on, keeping up your stamina and hanging with everyone else at peak performance for so long can take a toll. Do yourself a favor and check out my SXSW 2014 survival guide over at B-Sides. You will thank yourself.
